Project Title: Repair Runway
Location: Hurlburt Field, FL
Contract Value: $10,085,567
Date of Completion: November 2000
Description:
The Base Bid involved demolition of the existing primarily asphalt 10,000 foot runway at Hurlburt Field, and reconstruction of same with concrete pavements. This required manufacture and placement of approximately 135,000 SY of concrete pavement. Since this is Hurlburt Field’s only runway, the work required that the aircraft based at Hurlburt Field be moved during construction. Because of the critical situation, construction time was 60 days, following a 120-day mobilization and procurement time. R.C. commenced work in mid-June, completed the runway on time (after 8-day weather extension) on August 20, and the aircraft returned to base on August 21. The remainder of the contract work was taxiway reconstruction with concrete pavement completed in a follow-up phase in November 2000.
In addition to the demolition work and concrete pavement reconstruction, the project included extensive airfield runway and taxiway electrical work and asphalt paving. The asphalt pavement included approximately 16,000 metric tons of leveling course, plus shoulder work for the entire runway and the taxiway reconstruction.
